Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The eldest son of medical professionals Dr. Robert Goddard Young and Margaret Isabel Peace, deceased. Brother of the late William Robert Stuart Young. Descendant of Brigham Young and Dr. Robert Goddard, founder of American rocketry. A child prodigy, Young wrote his first stage play at the age of 11. Youngest student council president in the 111 year history of Humberside Collegiate Institute.
Attended Ryerson, Toronto and Western universities. A military immersion trained systems analyst, achieved global notoriety as founder, composer and lead singer of "The punk band that progessively became progressive", 'Cardboard Brains'.
Trivia
Provided the voice of Takeshi Kitano for post-production of Johnny Mnemonic in Toronto. At the time, Takeshi was involved in in near fatal motor-cycle accident, and was in intensive care in Japan.
Not to be confused with Australian John Paul Young who had a 1978 hit called 'Love is in the Air'.
