Peter Alexander

Peter Alexander (born Peter Alexander Ferdinand Maximilian Neumayer on June 30, 1926) is an Austrian singer and actor, who became popular in the 1950s and 1960s with his numerous roles in German musical films.

Alexander was born in Vienna, Austria. ^[1] During World War II, Alexander was a teenaged Luftwaffenhelfer and member of the Reichsarbeitsdienst before being finally being conscripted into the Navy. He was captured by the British in early 1945 and held as a prisoner-of-war. ^[1]

After the war, he attended Vienna's Max Reinhardt Seminary for actors until 1948 and then began his career in acting. ^[1] He starred in several musical comedies, including Liebe, Tanz und 1000 Schlager and Peter schießt den Vogel ab. He recorded Ralph Benatzky's operetta "Im weissen Rössl" , singing the lead role of Leopold Brandmeyer. The Eurodisc recording also features Ingeborg Hallstein in the role of Josepha Vogelhuber and Rudolf Schock in the role of Dr. Otto Siedler. Alexander also performed in the movie version of the operetta. ^[1][2] He later starred in the famous Count Bobby movies ^[1] and the Lümmel-series. ^[1] In the 1970s, Alexander started a second career as a TV host and entertainer. ^[1] He is a talented imitator of voices and people, including Queen Elizabeth II.

Alexander married Hilde Haagen in 1952; they had two children, Susanne Neumayer-Haidinger (1958-2009^[3][4]), an artist, and Michael Neumayer (born in 1963). Since the death of his wife Hilde in 2003 ^[5][6], he has been living in his house in Vienna in the 19th district, completely retired from the public. Peter Alexander has two grandchildren, a grandson (Philip) and a granddaughter (Marlene). ^[7]
